New gear investment, new rates for 2025

Nature videos filmmaker in Canada

New gear investment, new rates for 2025

I want to share some behind-the-scenes updates: I’ve recently made a significant investment in new filming equipment in 2024 to keep elevating the quality of my work. This new cinema filming equipment has been used in a few projects this year and will go into full use in 2025. This has me very excited about shooting and producing even higher quality narrative films and videos for my conservation customers for the year ahead.

With that, and as you’ve probably noticed, the cost of living and prices have been climbing across the board, from everyday essentials to specialized gear. To keep up with these changes and to maintain the level of service and quality I’m committed to, I’ll be adjusting my filmmaking rates starting in 2025. This new equipment will allow me to deliver even more impactful films, so I’m excited about the results we’ll be able to achieve together!

OK, all the above tech talk sounds fancy, but what does it mean for you, my amazing customers or potential customers? Using higher-end cinema camera gear means an elevated quality that clients (you!) will see and feel in every frame. With enhanced resolution, richer colour depth, and greater dynamic range, I can capture finer details and truer tones, creating a more cinematic and visually immersive experience. This upgraded equipment allows for a professional polish that’s noticeable, whether I’m shooting midnight wildlife research in low light and need to use ISO 3200, or biologists on the move in a forest, or intricate close-ups of tagging migrating birds with tracking devices. In the end, it means clients will get a final product that looks stunningly cinematic, vibrant, and polished — perfect for making a powerful impact on audiences.

I can tell you this: You can’t get this look with smartphones or DSLRs.

For any inquiries or conversations before Dec. 31, 2024 about your organization’s video and film projects in 2025, I’ll honour my current 2024 rate when filming begins in the new year. After Jan. 1, 2025, new projects, inquiries, and bookings will all be subject to 2025 rates.

I want to thank everyone for the incredible support over these last 10+ years.

To see how far we’ve come on this journey together, and see where it’s heading is very very exciting for conservation storytelling.

~ Gregg
